NEW — Aug. 24, 2026: Prime Video has set a September global streaming premiere for Don't Be Shy, a young-adult romantic comedy produced by Alia Bhatt and Shaheen Bhatt through Eternal Sunshine Productions.
Writer-director Sreeti Mukerji's coming-of-age film will introduce four newcomers in its leading roles: Aarushi Bajaj, Ansh Duggal, Bianca Arora and Piyush Khati. In other words, the movie is taking the radical Hollywood step of letting audiences meet people they have not already watched play a superhero's cousin.
Meet Shy and her carefully organized life
The story centers on Shyamili “Shy” Das, a 20-year-old who believes she has her life under control until friendship, young love and heartbreak begin rearranging the furniture. Prime Video describes the film as a celebration of the complicated process of figuring out adulthood.
Kunaal Roy Kapur, filmmaker Anurag Basu, Neha Dhupia and Anju Alva Naik appear in supporting roles. Grishma Shah and Vikesh Bhutani serve as co-producers alongside Alia and Shaheen Bhatt.
The project was first announced earlier this year as part of Prime Video India's 2026 slate. The new development is the September premiere window and confirmation that the four young actors will headline the film's global streaming debut.
The Bhatts are betting on unfamiliar faces
In a joint statement reported by Variety, Alia and Shaheen Bhatt said the film's friendships, first loves and lingering heartbreaks capture something honest about being young. They also highlighted the new cast's energy, vulnerability and chemistry.
Prime Video India originals chief Nikhil Madhok similarly emphasized the four newcomers and described the movie as a joyful look at the “beautifully messy” business of growing up.
No exact September date was included in Variety's announcement, so anyone already planning snacks should keep the calendar in pencil. What is confirmed is a worldwide Prime Video release next month, a first-time leading quartet and a production that would prefer its growing pains served with romantic-comedy timing.
