A 21-year-old Bexar County man has been charged with intentionally injuring a child after a newborn arrived at a hospital with multiple fractures, including older injuries that were already healing, authorities said.
The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to the hospital Sunday, August 23. The case was reported Monday by the San Antonio Express-News and Fox San Antonio.
The account investigators say did not match
According to the sheriff’s office, Aiden Jacob Rodriguez told investigators that he tripped while carrying the newborn and that the child cried after the fall. Authorities said he did not report the incident.
Medical personnel told investigators that the child’s injuries were consistent with abuse and were not consistent with the reported fall. Reports described both new fractures and older healing injuries.
The charge and the open investigation
Rodriguez was arrested on a charge of intentional injury to a child, a second-degree felony under Texas law. Court records cited by the Express-News showed a judge set bail at $75,000.
The sheriff’s office said the investigation remains active and that additional charges could be considered as evidence is reviewed. The newborn’s sex and relationship to Rodriguez were not disclosed in the available reports.
What is established—and what is not
The arrest, charge, medical notification and sheriff’s account are documented. Rodriguez has not been convicted, and the allegation must still be tested in court. A charging decision is not a verdict.
The child is not being identified. That is both an ethical boundary and a useful corrective to the internet’s worst reflex: turning a vulnerable child into searchable content while a criminal case is still developing. The public facts that matter now are the newborn’s safety, the medical findings described by authorities and the evidence investigators bring to court.
Facts first. Side-eye included.
