A Boone County, Kentucky, mother has been charged with first-degree criminal abuse after investigators alleged she failed to protect her 3-month-old daughter from abuse by the child’s father.

Carleena Webb, 33, was arrested Monday, August 24, FOX19 reported, citing the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.

What deputies allege

According to the station’s account of the arrest citation, Webb was away when cameras inside the home recorded her husband, Shaun Webb, allegedly abusing their infant daughter. Investigators allege Carleena Webb saw the video, returned to confront him and then left the children in his custody.

The citation further alleges she did not seek medical treatment for the baby or report the incident. An out-of-state family member contacted law enforcement after seeing video, FOX19 reported.

Two arrests, separate allegations

Shaun Webb was arrested Friday, August 21, and faces 10 counts of first-degree criminal child abuse, according to the station. Carleena Webb faces one count of first-degree criminal abuse based on the allegation that she failed to intervene and obtain help.

Both defendants were booked into the Boone County Detention Center. The charges are allegations. Court proceedings will determine guilt, and no plea information was immediately included in the report.

Why the case is being reported carefully

The child is not being identified. The available reporting describes disturbing video evidence, but repeating unnecessary detail would not improve public understanding. The central factual questions are what each adult allegedly did, what investigators say the mother knew, and why a relative—not someone inside the home—ultimately alerted authorities.
