The Bush Razorblade Suitcase deluxe edition is heading for a December 11 release through Craft Recordings, giving the band’s 1996 second album a 30th-anniversary return. Craft announced the project earlier this month, and October 14 coverage highlights its extras. This is an upcoming reissue, not a surprise new studio album or a claim that the announcement first happened today.
The two-CD set combines the remastered original album with an eleven-track second disc. Craft lists B-sides including “Old,” “Broken TV,” “Sleeper” and “Bubbles,” alongside previously unreleased 16 Oz. demo versions of “Greedy Fly” and “Cold Contagious.” There is also the Tricky mix of “In a Lonely Place.” The point is a look around the album’s edges, rather than a new sticker on the same thirteen tracks.
Live material includes “Glycerine” from Pinkpop, “Insect Kin” from Saturday Night Live, and “Insect Kin” and “Personal Holloway” from London’s Forum. RTTNews reports that the “Greedy Fly” demo is already available to stream. A separate colored-vinyl edition carries the original album and four bonus tracks; buyers should compare the actual programs rather than assume every format contains the entire archive.
The original record reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200, according to RTTNews, with “Swallowed” becoming a major alternative-radio hit. For listeners who lived through the period, the anniversary may arrive as a mild clerical error: surely the album is ten years old, perhaps fifteen if we account for shipping. Unfortunately, the calendar has retained counsel and will not negotiate.
Commentary: demos can make a reissue useful because they preserve decisions before those decisions become invisible. A familiar song arrives so fully formed in memory that we forget it was built. Comparing an earlier version with the released recording can shift attention from the glow of being young to the work of making music. That is a better reason to revisit an album than being told that middle age requires another collectible purchase.
Live recordings offer a different comparison: which songs expand on stage, which arrangements change, and how a band presents an album outside the controlled recording environment. None of that automatically makes a deluxe edition essential. It does give listeners a clear way to judge the extras rather than let the word limited perform hypnosis at the checkout.
The release date is December 11, with preorders listed by the label. There are no affiliate links in this report. Check the format and track list if you decide to buy; otherwise, the newly available demo provides a low-commitment trip back. Your flannel can remain where it is. The music never required proof that you still fit into it.
