Carson Daly is returning to host a Total Request Live reunion special filmed in the show’s old Times Square home, but the project is headed to Roku rather than MTV. Daly and original TRL creator Tony DiSanto are producing the program, expected in 2027. The network that taught a generation to race home for music videos has apparently misplaced its own time slot.

The taping reportedly included appearances by JoJo, Mýa, Ashanti, JC Chasez and Nelly, although the final lineup has not been formally confirmed. The producers are promising surprises, a phrase that in reunion television can mean anything from a beloved VJ to somebody discovering low-rise jeans in a locked cabinet.

TRL debuted in 1998 and turned a glass-walled studio into a daily referendum on pop culture. Fans crowded Times Square while Daly counted down videos, interviewed stars and attempted to maintain order as Britney Spears, NSYNC, Eminem and every available boy band passed through.

The original show ended in 2008, followed by a shorter revival from 2017 to 2019. Its cultural power belonged to a narrow technological moment: cable television still gathered mass audiences, music videos still functioned as events and fans could not instantly summon every clip from a phone.

A reunion cannot recreate that scarcity, but it can revisit the communal ritual. The confirmed facts are Daly’s return, DiSanto’s involvement, the Times Square filming and Roku destination; rumored guests remain unconfirmed. Gen X and older millennials may now stream the celebration on demand, immediately after asking why the Roku remote is under the couch again.
