A mystery involving hundreds of missing cinnamon rolls has an answer, and it is much more serious than a delivery gone rogue.
Roll and Dough founder Julie Pierre initially believed a courier had taken approximately 400 cinnamon rolls—an order worth about $3,000—after the pastries never reached a South Florida farmers market and the driver could not be contacted.
The bakery shared the suspected theft online and followed Uber’s instruction to file a police report. The story went viral. Days later, Sunrise police confirmed that the courier had been detained by U.S. Border Patrol while he was still en route to the delivery.
Customs and Border Protection identified the driver as Ivan Dario Rico Molano, a Colombian citizen. The agency said officers stopped the vehicle on Interstate 95 near Sheridan Street, determined that he had remained in the United States beyond an authorized stay and transported him for processing.
The cinnamon rolls were still inside the vehicle. Roll and Dough then issued a correction and apology, saying the company had made its original accusation based on the limited information available at the time and did not know immigration authorities had detained the driver.
So, no pastry heist—just a small business, an unreachable courier and an immigration arrest colliding in one deeply strange Florida headline.
