Dutch riot police broke up a far-right protest in The Hague after demonstrators threw fireworks and other objects at officers. Participants also gave Nazi salutes and shouted antisemitic chants, because apparently the worst material in European history has been greenlit for another lazy reboot.

Several hundred people gathered at Malieveld park to oppose immigration and asylum policies. Local authorities banned the demonstration after violence erupted, and police made multiple arrests.

Officials called the scenes disgusting

Justice Minister David van Weel condemned the attacks and extremist displays, saying a firm response was required. The violence was not an isolated bit of street theater. A similar demonstration the previous year included attacks on police, a burning police vehicle and damage at the headquarters of the centrist D66 party.

The Netherlands, like many European countries, is struggling with fierce disputes over migration, housing, identity and asylum policy. Those are legitimate subjects for democratic debate. Fireworks aimed at police and open fascist symbolism are not policy arguments; they are intimidation dressed as grievance.

The protest revealed more than opposition to immigration

The Associated Press reported the unrest on September 19, 2026.

Movements often ask to be judged by their most polished spokesperson while insisting their most violent supporters are somehow unrelated. The public can watch what people do when they assemble. If the rally produces Nazi salutes, antisemitism and attacks on officers, the problem is not merely that immigration policy became “heated.” The mask came off, and it was not subtle.
