NEW — Aug. 24, 2026: Dr. Gabrielle Henry returned to the Miss Universe Jamaica stage Sunday night to crown Celene Hall as the country's 2026 titleholder, marking a major public milestone after the serious injuries Henry suffered at last year's international pageant.

Henry, an ophthalmologist who won Miss Universe Jamaica 2025, appeared at the national coronation in Kingston on Aug. 23. People reported that a news release issued before the event described her return as a meaningful continuation of her pageant journey.

A return that carried more weight than the crown

Henry fell from the stage during the Miss Universe preliminary competition in Thailand on Nov. 19, 2025. The injuries disclosed afterward included a fracture and intracranial hemorrhage, and she required hospital treatment in Thailand before being transported back to Jamaica.

She remained mostly out of public view while recovering. Her first major public appearance after the fall came May 16 at the Integrity Children's Fund's Dinner en Rouge Gala in Atlanta, an event supporting literacy programs for children in Jamaica.

Sunday's ceremony put Henry back in the setting where her reign began, but this time the difficult part of the walk was already behind her. No melodramatic television montage was required; simply being there said plenty.

Celene Hall now carries Jamaica's sash

Hall, 25, entered the national competition as Miss Universe Jamaica Portland 2026. The Jamaica Gleaner reported in May that the executive manager and community advocate became the first parish queen crowned under the competition's new parish-level selection system.

Her official social profile identifies her as an artist and founder of the Hummingbird Effect Foundation, which advocates for underserved communities. She will now represent Jamaica on the international Miss Universe stage.

The evening belonged to the new titleholder, but Henry's presence gave the traditional passing of the crown an uncommon second meaning: one woman beginning a journey while another demonstrated how much strength it took to complete hers.
