Jelly Roll borrowed Jimmy Kimmel’s desk Monday night and used the opportunity to deliver a presidential weight joke with a built-in safety catch: he aimed most of the punch line at himself.
While guest-hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the country star brought up a Washington Post report about doctors’ concerns over President Donald Trump’s weight. TMZ reported that Jelly Roll noted the president was nearing 240 pounds before offering deliberately crude advice “from one fat pig to another.”
The joke came with a 300-pound receipt
Jelly Roll then said his own roughly 300-pound weight loss amounted to shedding an entire Donald Trump. He also played clips of Trump mocking other people’s bodies, including former New Jersey governor Chris Christie.
The routine was comedy, not a medical assessment. It also worked because Jelly Roll made his own body and health history the center of the bit instead of pretending to be a late-night Marcus Welby with a monologue card.
A guest host with unusually relevant material
Jelly Roll has discussed his weight-loss effort publicly for years, turning a subject that often arrives wrapped in shame into part of his recovery story. Monday’s monologue used that experience as both the premise and the punch line.
Trump has not publicly responded to the segment. The White House has previously released health information about the president, but the comic’s routine was prompted by recent reporting rather than a new official diagnosis.
Late-night television has never required a permission slip to go below the belt. Jelly Roll’s version simply arrived with a little more self-awareness—and about 300 pounds less baggage.
