NEW — Aug. 23, 2026: Kartik Aaryan has undergone surgery for a knee injury sustained while filming an action sequence and is now recovering at home, according to a statement from his representative.
The Indian Express reported Sunday morning that the surgery was completed successfully at a Mumbai hospital. The actor's spokesperson said Aaryan was resting and expected to return to the set, though no exact date for that return was announced.
The injury happened during an action sequence
Aaryan was working on an upcoming sports drama directed by Kabir Khan when he injured his knee. Initial reports earlier in the week said the production paused while doctors evaluated the injury and prepared for surgery.
The new statement provides the first clear post-operation update: the procedure is over, Aaryan is out of the hospital and the recovery has moved home. It does not identify the precise diagnosis or give a rehabilitation schedule. That means any online countdown to his first day back on set is running without an official clock.
Aaryan has dealt with a knee injury during production before. In 2023, he injured the same general area while working on Shehzada, according to the Indian Express. The current report does not say whether the two injuries are connected.
The film reunites him with Kabir Khan
The untitled project follows Aaryan and Khan's collaboration on the 2024 sports biographical drama Chandu Champion. The new production has been described as another sports drama, with Aaryan performing physically demanding scenes.
The Indian Express reported that the film also marks Aaryan's first producing credit through Dopamine Studios, with Khan co-producing. A release date has not been announced.
For now, the responsible headline is less dramatic than the action sequence: surgery completed, patient home, recovery underway. Movie sets have stunt coordinators, trainers and schedules detailed enough to frighten a project manager, but knees remain stubbornly committed to their own timetable.
