Lionel Richie has paused several tour dates while receiving treatment for atrial fibrillation after experiencing breathing trouble following a concert. “All Night Long” has finally encountered a medical professional willing to suggest a shorter set.

The 77-year-old singer reportedly canceled shows with Earth, Wind & Fire in San Francisco, Chicago and Columbus. He is undergoing an ablation procedure intended to correct abnormal electrical signals that can produce an irregular heartbeat.

Atrial fibrillation is common but serious

AFib can cause palpitations, fatigue, shortness of breath and an increased risk of stroke. Treatment varies by patient and may include medication, lifestyle changes, cardioversion or ablation. A tour schedule adds travel, disrupted sleep and physical demands that deserve careful management.

Richie's recent health issues have included previous interruptions, making the current pause more than ordinary show-business rescheduling. No concert is worth treating a cardiology warning like feedback from the monitors.

The catalog is not going anywhere

From the Commodores through a solo career packed with “Hello,” “Dancing on the Ceiling” and “Running With the Night,” Richie helped define multiple decades of radio. His songs have survived formats, fashions and enough prom decorations to fill a regional warehouse.

The Scottish Sun reported the tour cancellations and treatment on September 22, 2026.

Fans can want another tour and still prefer that Richie take the time his doctors recommend. Gen X has reached the age when “the show must go on” comes with a sensible footnote: after the follow-up appointment.
