Norman Reedus is trading walkers for spies. The Walking Dead veteran has joined Apple TV’s upcoming action thriller Disavowed as a series regular opposite James Marsden.
Apple’s series follows Brad Griffin, a celebrated CIA case officer played by Marsden, who is fired in the middle of a global crisis. Details about Reedus’s role are being kept under wraps, which is TV-industry code for “please keep guessing until we release a trailer.”
The show has blockbuster DNA
Disavowed comes from Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, the screenwriting team whose credits include Iron Man and Uncharted. Marsden is also an executive producer, while Reedus arrives with years of experience making exhausted survival look strangely charismatic.
The pairing is the hook. Marsden can play polished authority with a hairline that survives national emergencies. Reedus looks like he has already slept in the safe house, distrusted the handler and repaired the getaway vehicle himself.
THE JUNK FOOD TAKEApple TV keeps assembling casts that make you say, “Fine, I will add one more espionage drama to the pile.” Reedus plus Marsden is exactly that kind of extremely effective nonsense.
No premiere date or character description for Reedus has been announced. For now, the confirmed news is the casting, the CIA-crisis premise and a leading duo with very different approaches to looking worried in expensive lighting.
Facts first. Side-eye included.
