Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs has been charged with misdemeanor battery and misdemeanor criminal damage to property in Wisconsin, according to court records and the Brown County District Attorney's Office.
The charges stem from a May 23 incident involving a former girlfriend. Prosecutors allege that surveillance video from a garage supports an account that Jacobs struck the woman as she tried to leave, took her phone and damaged it. The accusations have not been proven in court.
The district attorney said some evidence became available only recently through continuing forensic work. Jacobs had turned himself in shortly after the May incident, but formal charges were not filed until this week.
His attorneys said prosecutors elected to file misdemeanors that do not include a domestic-violence designation and that the case should be addressed in court rather than through the media. Jacobs is scheduled for an initial appearance November 17.
The Packers said the team was aware of the matter, while the NFL is reviewing it under league policy. Any football discipline would be separate from what happens in the Wisconsin court case.
