Rush has donated $785,000 to complete funding for a permanent Neil Peart memorial at Lakeside Park in St. Catharines, Ontario. The campaign spent six years gathering public support; then the band arrived with the financial equivalent of a closing drum fill.

Peart grew up in St. Catharines, and the park inspired the Rush song “Lakeside Park” from 1975's Caress of Steel. The memorial will connect the musician's global legacy to the ordinary local place that helped shape it.

The design includes two sculptures

The planned installation will feature a pair of sculptural elements honoring Peart's life as a drummer, lyricist and writer. Organizers expect the finished memorial to open in late 2027 after design, engineering and construction work.

Fans had already raised substantial funding through donations and events. Rush's contribution closes the remaining gap and allows the project to move from the long campaign stage into physical reality.

Peart’s legacy was always larger than technique

Drummers study his precision, odd meters and enormous kits, but generations of listeners also carried his lyrics into adolescence, grief, ambition and middle age. He gave arena rock an unusually bookish interior life without removing any of the volume.

Louder reported the band's contribution on September 23, 2026.

Rock memorials can become oversized photo opportunities with a plaque attached. This one belongs beside the water that entered the band's mythology before arenas, documentaries and tribute concerts. Lakeside Park helped make the song; now the song returns the favor.
