Some people build a shed. Chester Walsh built himself a spaceship—with a bed and a full bar—right in his backyard.
The 29-year-old prop maker from Northamptonshire, England, told People he spent roughly $12,000 and three months creating the spacecraft-inspired retreat. Its curved seating can convert into a bed, while a monitor showing space imagery helps sell the illusion that the garden has left Earth.
Walsh drew inspiration from the Star Wars universe, including the Millennium Falcon and Disney’s Galaxy’s Edge. He handled most of the construction himself, bringing in outside help only for the electrical work.
A 19-part social-media series documenting the build has drawn millions of views. It is equal parts backyard hangout, professional portfolio and glorious refusal to settle for an ordinary patio.
