NEW — Aug. 23, 2026: Kannada actor and filmmaker Upendra has joined the cast of Zombie Reddy Nxt Lvl, the newly titled sequel to the 2021 Telugu zombie comedy Zombie Reddy.
People Media Factory confirmed the casting in an announcement timed to returning star Teja Sajja's birthday, according to Variety. Sajja is back as the franchise's zombie-slaying lead, while Shanaya Kapoor makes her South Indian cinema debut.
A new director is taking the zombie shift
Suparn S. Varma will direct the sequel from a story created by Zombie Reddy director Prasanth Varma. The screenplay is credited to Hussain Dalal, Prasanth Varma and Suparn S. Varma, with T.G. Vishwa Prasad and Krithi Prasad producing for People Media Factory.
Upendra's role is being described by the production as a major one, but no character name or plot specifics were announced. That is the useful line between confirmed casting and the internet's traditional hobby of building a whole movie out of one poster.
The original film followed a game developer confronting a zombie outbreak triggered by a vaccine experiment. This sequel is being pitched as a larger adventure zombie action-comedy, with Gowra Hari composing the music.
The sequel is aiming beyond one market
The producers plan to release Zombie Reddy Nxt Lvl in 2027 in seven languages: Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam, Nepali and Japanese. No exact release date has been announced.
Sajja said the first movie was a calculated risk intended to break from conventional storytelling and promised to take the sequel's mayhem to a larger scale. Director Suparn S. Varma said the team is building a broader "zombieverse" from Prasanth Varma's original foundation.
For now, the verified news is pleasantly straightforward: Upendra is in, the title is official, the principal creative team is named and the zombies have a 2027 appointment. Whether they have learned seven languages remains classified.
