A Flock of Seagulls gave the world “I Ran,” “Space Age Love Song,” “Wishing” and a hairstyle so architecturally ambitious that the music sometimes had to fight for attention. Fortunately, the music won. Those records still sound like chrome, rain and a future designed by people who had only recently met a synthesizer.

The Liverpool band’s classic lineup featured Mike Score on vocals and keyboards, his brother Ali Score on drums, Frank Maudsley on bass and Paul Reynolds on guitar. Success came quickly in the early 1980s, followed by personnel changes, relocation and the sort of long afterlife familiar to nearly every band once featured in heavy MTV rotation.

Where are they now?

Mike Score continues to lead a touring version of A Flock of Seagulls. The band remained active on the 2026 nostalgia circuit, sharing bills with other MTV-era acts including Men Without Hats, Bow Wow Wow, Animotion and Tommy Tutone.

The original four members also reunited remotely for orchestral albums: Ascension in 2018 and String Theory in 2021. That did not become a permanent original-lineup reunion, but it gave the classic members a new chapter together without pretending the previous decades had not happened.

The hair was not the whole story

The San Antonio Express-News documented the band’s 2026 appearance at La Semana Alegre.

Mike Score’s haircut became shorthand for an entire decade, which is both an achievement and mildly unfair. “Space Age Love Song” remains one of new wave’s finest singles, and the band is still working. The flock did not vanish. It just learned to tour with better conditioner.
