A Columbia, South Carolina, police officer was killed and another wounded Saturday during a gunfight in a city park following a domestic-dispute call.
Police identified the slain officer as Christopher DeLong, 29, a two-year department veteran. Officer David Dymock was hospitalized in stable condition.
Police Chief W.H. “Skip” Holbrook said the encounter began after a woman reported that a man covered by a restraining order was damaging her property. Officers later encountered the suspect, identified as 33-year-old Adam Tyler Dowdy, near South East Park.
Dowdy also died in the exchange of gunfire. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating. DeLong is survived by his wife and two young children.
