An Orlando man who served time for killing a swan at Lake Eola is back in custody after police say he used a metal pipe to smash an Arby’s window, damaged a Dunkin’ sign, threw the pipe toward passing cars and later vandalized a bank ATM.

Police arrested 34-year-old Adonis Leyva at a nearby Wawa. He now faces felony criminal-mischief charges. The allegations have not been proven in court, and he is presumed innocent of the new charges.

The backstory somehow makes it stranger

Leyva had been released from prison only weeks earlier after serving nearly a year in a case involving the killing of a Lake Eola swan. He previously said he was hungry and had hunted the protected bird for food.

Then came the alleged fast-food damage spree, which reads like somebody spun a wheel labeled “Florida,” “chain restaurant,” “metal pipe” and “wildlife sequel.” Gen X had Mad Libs too, but nobody expected the evening news to start filling them in.

An employee was reportedly frightened during the Arby’s incident, and police linked surveillance footage to additional damage at a PNC Bank ATM. Leyva was held on bond while the new cases proceed.

The absurd headline should not bury the serious part: workers and motorists were allegedly placed at risk. Jokes belong on the ridiculous chain of events, not on people who had no idea their shift might become a crime scene.
