The University of Tennessee at Knoxville lifted a campus lockdown Friday after police detained a suspect in a stabbing near World’s Fair Park.
UT issued a campus-wide “active threat” alert and initially told people indoors to lock and barricade rooms while warning those outside to seek safety. University police later said the active attacker was no longer a threat to campus and canceled the barricade order.
Knoxville Police said the stabbing involved two people believed to be unhoused. The victim sustained injuries described as non-life-threatening, and officials said no students or university property were involved.
The emergency nevertheless triggered a large response because the suspect was initially reported moving west toward campus. Multiple agencies searched the area before police announced the detention and the all-clear.
