For millions of people, A-ha will always begin with a pencil-sketch waitress climbing into a comic book while one of the cleanest synth riffs of the 1980s makes reality look negotiable. “Take On Me” turned Morten Harket, Magne Furuholmen and Paul Waaktaar-Savoy into international stars in 1985—and gave MTV one of the few videos everybody can still describe frame by frame.

The Norwegian trio was never merely a one-song machine. “The Sun Always Shines on T.V.,” “Hunting High and Low,” “The Living Daylights” and a long European career followed. They separated, reunited, retired, reversed course and toured again because apparently even Scandinavian synth-pop cannot escape the group-chat cycle.

Where are the three members now?

Harket disclosed in 2025 that he had Parkinson’s disease and had undergone deep-brain-stimulation procedures at the Mayo Clinic. He said the condition had affected his voice and made future singing uncertain, although he had continued working on songs. The announcement shifted A-ha’s future from ordinary tour speculation to a more personal question of health and possibility.

Furuholmen has continued making music and visual art, while Waaktaar-Savoy has maintained his songwriting and recording work, including projects connected to Savoy. Both have publicly supported Harket, and the trio’s catalog continues to reach listeners far younger than the original MTV audience.

The band’s present is quieter, not erased

The Guardian reported Harket’s diagnosis and its effect on his singing. There is no responsible way to promise another A-ha tour while his health comes first.

The better answer to “where are they now?” is that the three men remain connected to the music, but the future is open. “Take On Me” survived every format change from VHS to TikTok. A-ha no longer needs a comeback to prove it lasted.
