Michelle Pfeiffer would like everyone to stop packing up her career and placing it in storage.

The actress recently cleared up rumors that she was retiring from acting, calling the idea ridiculous during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

The confusion began after Pfeiffer said she no longer felt particularly interested in leading an entire movie. Apparently, the internet translated that into, ‘Michelle Pfeiffer has abandoned Hollywood and now spends her days making sourdough bread in a remote cabin.’

That is not what she meant.

Pfeiffer explained that she enjoys ensemble projects because they allow several talented actors to share the work. She remains open to taking a leading role if the right project comes along.

Honestly, that sounds less like retirement and more like somebody who has earned the right to stop accepting every exhausting job placed in front of her.

Pfeiffer has recently found success on television, including roles in The Madison and Margo’s Got Money Troubles. Her television work has also reminded audiences that she remains one of those performers who can walk into a scene, barely raise an eyebrow and immediately become the most interesting person in it.

So no, Michelle Pfeiffer is not retiring. She is simply being selective—which used to be considered a reasonable career decision before the internet began treating every casual remark like a farewell tour.
